From Planning Manager to Project Controls Lead: How the 11147NAT Diploma Helped Raymon Step Up

At the Project Controls Institute, nothing tells our story better than the success of our graduates. Raymon Mikhael came to the 11147NAT Diploma of Project Controls with years of hands-on experience and a clear goal — to consolidate that expertise into a formal, industry-recognised qualification. Not long after completing the program, he stepped into a Project Controls Lead role at Ausgrid, one of Australia's largest energy infrastructure providers. Here's his experience, in his own words:

Prior to undertaking the Diploma, I held the position of Planning Manager within the West Region Delivery Team (WRDT), leading project controls across major water infrastructure delivery for Sydney Water. Having built my expertise primarily through hands-on experience rather than formal training, I pursued the Diploma of Project Controls to consolidate that experience and establish a stronger technical foundation.

The program significantly advanced my capability across Primavera P6, earned value management aligned to AS/NZS 4817, and NEC4 contract administration, disciplines that remain central to my daily practice. Equally valuable was the comprehensive, end-to-end perspective it provided on how project controls integrate across a portfolio.

This grounding was instrumental in my appointment as Project Controls Lead at Ausgrid. For any professional seeking to advance in this field, I would recommend it without hesitation as a genuinely worthwhile investment.
